Picatinny rail for Mossberg

O.F. Mossberg & Sons was founded in 1919 by Swedish immigrant Oscar Frederick Mossberg in New Haven, Connecticut. It is a brand with Scandinavian roots – Oscar Mossberg emigrated from Sweden and founded what is today the oldest family-owned firearms manufacturer in the USA. Mossberg is primarily associated with shotguns – the 500 series is one of the best-selling shotguns ever and is used by civilians, police, and the US military. Bolt action hunting rifles are part of the assortment but are far less prominent in the general consciousness than shotgun production. The ATR 100 is the model covered here, and it is a centerfire bolt action rifle with its own construction and mounting geometry, not shared with other Mossberg models.

Fit and model verification

The Mossberg ATR 100 has specific hole spacings and mounting geometry. Other Mossberg rifles – including the Patriot series and MVP – use different hole spacings and are not compatible with an ATR 100 rail without verification. The older ATR 100 and Patriot short action share footprints in certain versions according to source material, but always confirm the actual measurements with theA/B/C control measurementson your specific rifle before ordering.

Material and optics setup

A Picatinny rail on the Mossberg ATR 100 provides access to standardized rings and mounts from the broad current market. The ATR 100 is typically used for hunting, and an aluminum rail is suitable for most hunting optics setups and keeps the weight down. Steel is relevant if the optics are heavy or the rifle is used intensively over many seasons. The material difference is described in the guide onsteel vs. aluminum for Picatinny.

Mounting

Mounting follows the standard procedure with threadlocker and correct torque, as described in themounting guide. Clean the contact surfaces thoroughly before mounting and ensure that the screw holes in the ATR 100 receiver are free of oil and dirt before placing the rail and applying the threadlocker. Check torque after tightening.

The ATR 100 is the model covered on this page. Other Mossberg centerfire models require separate verification of measurements and model before choosing a rail.
